After a while, you will have your chance to start learning to fly the plane on your own. However, at first, you are likely to have a flight instructor sitting next to you with his or her own set of controls. This way, should you panic, forget an important step, or otherwise lose control of the plane, your instructor will be able to immediately take over and take control of the situation using the controls on his or her side of the plane.
